Alexander Aleksandrovich Alyabyev wrote seven operas, twenty musical comedies, more than 200 romances, and many other pieces. His most famous work is The Nightingale, written in 1825, and is a romance based on a poem written by Anton Delvig. This piece was originally written for Cello and Piano in the key of E Minor.

Alyabyev was born to a wealthy family in 1787, learned music in his early years, and joined the Russian Army in 1812. He is often credited as Alabieff or sometimes as Alabiev.
