Advanced Intermediate. Score. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee. S0.10503. Program note. Two thousand ten marks my 20th year of teaching music at Boston College, a Jesuit institute of higher learning. To celebrate this milestone I decided to set a poem by the great British Jesuit poet, Gerard Manley Hopkins. In my search for a text I came upon his monumental work, âœThe Wreck of the Deutschland. â The poem is in two parts. Part The First deals with faith and God. Part The Second concerns the five Franciscan nuns who perished in the sinking of the ship. I decided to set Part The First only, for soprano and piano. There are ten stanzas. Each stanza has its own musical texture and mood. THOU mastering me God. I did say yes 3. The frown on his face 4. I am soft sift 5. I kiss my hand 6. Not out of his bliss 7. It dates from day 8.
