Best known as both the 'Royal Navy Hymn' of the United Kingdom and 'Navy Hymn' of the United States, 'Eternal Father, Strong to Save' has been used at memorials such as the funeral service for John F. Kennedy in 1963 and the service for the astronauts of the space shuttle Columbia in 2003. This setting of Melita retains the traditional solemnity and majesty of this hymn, while adding a sense of ceremonial dignity and splendor with the brass quintet parts. This arrangement was commissioned for the 148th Annual Convention Service of the Episcopal Diocese.
