In a Hurry composed by Frederick "Dave" Snider. For big band. Medium to difficult. Score and parts. Published by Walrus Music Publishing. WA.55685. A jazz composition by bassist Christian McBride, this is a fantastic melodic and technically challenging string bass feature. The melody, played on bass, has sophisticated blues lines over a G blues progression. Don't let the fact that this is a blues fool you because the challenging part of this composition is that the melody is played with the bow, or as I call it the "stick of pain. SOP. " It requires good technical facility and will be a challenge for any serious jazz bassist. The tempo is also quite brisk although it can be taken slower to ensure a good performance. There is also a challenging sax soli and tutti section. Additional solos can be done by anyone in the band. My arrangement has been a crowd-pleaser whenever it has been performed. It is a great opener for the second half of a jazz concert. Soloist. String bass feature with additional solos from the band. Trumpet highest note D5 --. concert D. Instrumentation. Four trumpets, four trombones,. the fourth being a bass trombone. Two altos, two tenors, one baritone sax. Rhythm section. optional guitar, optional vibes, piano, bass, and drums. No doubles.
